CARDINAL TURKSON CUTS SOD FOR THE HOLY CHILD CANDIDACY HOUSE
Monday, the 25th of February 2008 is indeed a memorable day in the history of the SHCJ as the building of the new Candidacy House in Cape Coast, Ghana officially commenced. This was marked by the Sod-cutting ceremony performed jointly by the Society Leader, Sr. Geraldine MacCarthy and the Catholic Archbishop of Cape Coast, His Eminence, Peter Cardinal Appiah Turkson. The ceremony was indeed very interesting, wonderful and unforgettable.
The occasion commenced with an opening prayer led by the Cardinal. SHCJ songs were chanted and various speeches were made.

Sr. Geraldine MacCarthy expressed profound gratitude to God for making a dream come through. She thanked the Cardinal immensely for taking out time from his busy schedule to grace the occasion. The Cardinal expressed his joy in having us as partners in the Lord’s vineyard.

Cardinal Turkson and Sr. Geraldine each planted a tree to mark the occasion. The land was later blessed with holy water.

The Cardinal and all those present glanced through the sketch of the Candidacy house. It was proposed that hopefully by August 2009 the building would have been completed. He then blessed all those present at the ceremony.

The ceremony which lasted for about an hour was graced by all the Sisters in Cape Coast Community, Josephine Anto, Joana Duker, Theresa Tanko and Ebele Onochie as well as the nine candidates, Evelyn Akweongo, Felicia Ezeobi, Nadege Mongar, Theresa Ogbu, Lilian Ohayawa, Assumpta Okoli, Juliana Omudu, Blessing Tsav and Stephanie Ugwu .

New tree symbolizes the growth of new SHCJ life in the African Province
and the Society of the Holy Child Jesus.
