Geraldine MacCarthy,Society Leader, pictured below, and Barbara Linen, member of the Society Leadership Team, attended a meeting of member congregations of UNANIMA in Rome. The Sisters of Notre Dame of Sion were hosts of this third annual get-together. There was good sharing of experiences especially around the anti-trafficking focus of UNANIMA. We gave each other news from the different congregations (Carmelite Sisters of Charity Vedruna, Holy Union Sisters, Religious of Jesus and Mary, as well as the Sion Sisters and ourselves were represented) about actions we have been involved in, as well as an airing of concerns and questions.
One suggestion made was about finding ways to link better not only from Board representatives out to their own congregation, but between and among contact persons from our congregations working in different countries. For example, three congregations have women working in Argentina. As far as we know they are not connected with each other. We will look for ways to make a directory of contact persons in the different countries in order to increase the effectiveness of the networking.

We continued to educate ourselves around the subject of trafficking of persons by watching the video, “Not for Sale”. A library of videos is being shared in the group as well. Finally, we looked forward to Catherine Ferguson’s coming to Rome in June when we will have an opportunity for the rich exchange her visits create.
Catherine is coming for a follow-up meeting looking back at the UISG Training Programme for Religious Personnel in Counter Trafficking Activities. (For more information see the UNANIMA programs page http://www.unanima-international.org/english/program/program_traffic.htm
