Many Holy Child schools celebrate Foundation Day on October 15. This year the Society is marking 175 years and the African Province is celebrating 90 years.
At one school – Holy Child Model, Nursery and Primary School Otukpo, Nigeria – they began the day with Mass where the Psalm was taken by Sr. Gloria Okoh, SHCJ, the head teacher with a male staff, the learners enthusiastically dramatized the Gospel. Holy Child hymns were beautifully sang all through the Mass and then the sisters working in the school sang “Call Upon the Lord” and “O May All Who Come Behind Us Find Us Faithful”.
After Mass they had other activities such as teaching by the senior learners, poems, cultural dance by learners, cultural dance by teachers, and choreography by teachers. They also had a drama on the life of Society founder Cornelia Connelly, a drama on the history of the province, beginning with Mother Charles Walker, the Irish sister’s coming to Africa, Bishop Shanahan’s invitation and the coming of the Holy Child sisters, acted by the children, and a presentation by Holy Child Sisters which was Efik cultural dance, going back to our roots.
Happy Feast from Holy Child Model N/P School, Otukpo, Benue State, Nigeria 🇳🇬
Thank you for the publication on Cornelia’s values. I observed a mistake. I think the date “1940” was meant to be “1840”.
