SHCJ Sisters Justina Akpakpan and Genevieve Ibedu have recently arrived in Pasadena, California, USA for a five-month-long internship at Mayfield Junior School of the Holy Child Jesus.
Both are teachers who will take what they have learned back to their respective Holy Child schools in Nigeria. Justina is at Holy Child Model School and Genevieve at Holy Child College, which is celebrating 70 years this year. The internship is a first for Mayfield Junior School.
“I love traveling and meeting people,” Genevieve said, quoting Society founder Cornelia Connelly, saying: “I am a cosmopolitan. The whole world is my country and heaven is my home.”
On the way from Nigeria to California, the two stopped in the American Province‘s offices in Rosemont, Pennsylvania, where they attended a pergola blessing and met with the sisters who live there.
Getting to know some of the Society’s older members there “is a dream come true,” Genevieve said. Those who had worked so long “doing for God” are now “being for God,” she said. And that “makes me make the best of my time as a young person to serve God and humanity.”
