Holy Child Montessori School in the Dominican Republic was honored by the Library of Congress on Tuesday, October 27, 2015, at the annual Literacy Awards. The school was one of 14 national and international organizations recognized for effectively applying best practices to promote literacy and reading.
American Province Leader Mary Ann Buckley, SHCJ, attended the event and accepted the award on behalf of the school. Sister Mary Ann shared that the entire day was both wonderful and inspiring. “I am impressed to see how people are working around the world to promote literacy, and how the Library of Congress is supporting them. It was a great afternoon into the evening!”
Congratulations to Holy Child Montessori School, especially Luz del Alba de la Cruz, head of the school, Mary Alice Minogue, SHCJ, trainer of teachers, and all the faculty, volunteers and teachers’ aids who have contributed to promoting literacy and reading!
