Fr. Joseph P. Parkes, S.J., President, Cristo Rey New York High School

Cristo Rey New York High School is a co-sponsored ministry of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus.

On May 24, 2017, the entire student body gathered in St. Cecilia’s Parish Hall to celebrate Cristo Rey New York’s College Recognition Ceremony. Each year at this time, seniors announce the colleges and universities that they will be attending in the fall.

The class of 2017 has had a phenomenal year with many hard earned accomplishments that have taken CRNYHS to new heights. Among hundreds of incredible college acceptances, CRNYHS will have its first graduates attend Princeton University and the University of Michigan.

Two members of the class of 2017 were named QuestBridge Scholars, and both will be attending Williams College on full scholarships. One of these students was named a Milken Scholar and the recipient of the Voya Foundation Scholarship, and the other was named a New York Times College Scholarship Program finalist. Equally impressive, CRNYHS now has its first graduate who will attend CUNY’s prestigious Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, a seven-year program that leads to a B.S. and M.D.

The achievements of the class of 2017 are a true testament not only to the hard work and dedication put forth by students, but of all those who have invested in the mission of Cristo Rey. Four years ago, college admission was a goal for many of our students. Now, it is a hard-earned accomplishment. Congratulations to the record breaking class of 2017!
