Providence Center Helps with Mural ‘Families Belong Together…’

July 23, 2018

Providence Center’s youth program was thrilled to join the Mural Arts Restorative Justice Program to help paint a mural at the intersection of Cumberland and Front Streets in the Fairhill section of Philadelphia, where Providence Center is located.

Working on the mural.

The mural was organized by the Mural Arts Philadelphia Guild and led by Chilean artist Ian Pierce (a.k.a. Artes Ekeko). The painting depicts the Holy Family as an immigrant family with the words Families Belong Together, Not In Cages. Read more about this mural project and its dedication in the Philadelphia Magazine or the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Providence Center was founded by the Society of the Holy Child Jesus in 1993. The Center offers education programming for children, youth, and adults in a community with the highest poverty rate in the city. Providence Center’s mission is to educate people to have the power and spirit to transform their lives and community.
