Graced Moment: Jeanne Marie Guerin

In October 2024, the American Province launched Graced Moments, where every month, a Holy Child Sister shares a “grace-filled” experience that has influenced her life. The project flows from the Society’s mission “to help others to believe that God lives and acts in them and in our world.”

We thank Jeanne Marie Guerin, a Sister of the Holy Child Jesus for 70 years, for offering her graced moment on how “the love of Christ” reconnected her to a childhood friend.

Feel free to leave a comment for Sister Jeanne Marie at the bottom of this page. Thank you.

Sister Jeanne Marie with Ethel at Sister Jeanne Marie’s 50th Jubilee in 2004.

This is a graced moment for me.

A young woman (Kathy), whom Sister Jeanne Marie Hatch was directing, told Jeanne that her mother had a childhood friend who had entered the Holy Child Sisters. Did she know her? Jeanne Marie Guerin.

The next time, when I was staying at Jeanne’s house, Kathy brought her mother, Ethel Ward Keegan, a lovely lady.

We had received our First Communion together in first grade at Saint Monica’s Church in Philadelphia. We had a grand reunion.

Then, Ethel and her husband joined my family and me to celebrate my 50th Jubilee as a Sister of the Holy Child Jesus.

It was a graced moment for me because the love of Christ had brought us, by different roots, together again.

“It is not presumption to have hope and joy
and confidence in God’s grace.”

It is a great pleasure to meet old friends again. The internet can help,us to do this. but it gets harder as we get older and many of our former friends have died. We can talk to them in heaven where we hope to meet them again one day!

Renewing friendships is such a gift, especially later in life. I graduated from HC Potomac in 1966. My best friend from high school, Carol, and I have remained very close. She lived in Virginia, but in 2023 she moved to the same retirement community I live in in Pennsylvania! It is such a blessing to be close and spend lots of time together again. Both of our husbands are in Nursing care, so we support each other in so many ways. God has given women the special gift of connecting with another female friend who becomes like a sister. Friendship is a very special way to experience the love of God.
