In October 2024, the American Province launched Graced Moments, where every month, a Holy Child Sister shares a “grace-filled” experience that has influenced her life. The project flows from the Society’s mission “to help others to believe that God lives and acts in them and in our world.”
We thank Mary Alice Minogue, a Sister of the Holy Child Jesus for 63 years, for offering her “graced moment.”

“Still, I remind Him, ‘You are here,
and You love me.’… Life is possible.”

It’s 5:00 in the morning, the barrio lies quiet, the sun burns its way between palms and over tin roofs.
I’m sitting in my rocker made of white metal tubes and blue strips of plastic. Tea is nearby, my book is on my lap, it tells me:
“This is what you are to do: Lift your heart up to the Lord, with a gentle stirring of love … let Him be your sole concern…”
A sip of tea, a glint of sun, a voice: “I am here, and I love you!”
A breeze, a breath, silence.
Everything changes.
That was thirty years ago.
Still, I remind Him, “You are here, and You love me.”
That’s all. Quiet descends. Life is possible.
You are here with me now.
“It is not presumption to have hope and joy
and confidence in God’s grace.”
-Venerable Cornelia Connelly

Thanks so much for sharing your graced moment, Mary Alice! The memory of 30 years ago and then again today is lovely.
Mary Alice, Your graced moment sharing was powerful, nurturing and brighten my inner being. Gracias
I heard that graced moment when Mary Alice taught me in 8th grade at St Veronica School in Chicago. Her prayer was true and is true. It’s now my prayer, too.
I am just starting my prayer time. What a wonderful way to start. Sarah
I can picture you there! It was always a blessed sight of peace and serenity in the midst of a busy, crazy world!
